5 SEHS seniors to be selected as finalists
Recipients must plan to attend an Oregon public college, university, or trade school
GPA 3.0-3.5 preferred
Improving GPA during 2nd half of high school preferred
Extra-curricular activities (job, volunteering, sports, clubs, etc.) are a factor.
Significant financial need and/or other challenges are factors.
Completed FAFSA or ORSAA required
Finalist applications will be sent to the Southtowne Rotary Club. The club may schedule an interview with finalists.

Southtowne Rotary Shaw Scholarship for Students Impacted by Homelessness
Awards scholarships worth $2,500
Recipients must plan to attend an Oregon public college, university, or trade school.
Applicants must have been affected in some way by homelessness.
Academic success is a factor.
Extra-curricular activities (job, volunteering, sports, clubs, etc.) are a factor.
Financial need is a factor.

4/10, 11, & 12: Friends of the Eugene Public Library seek high school students to volunteer at their annual book sale at the Lane Events Center Performance Hall:
Fri, 4/10: Unload and set up books
Sat, 4/11: Greet and help shoppers. Re-stock books.
Sun, 4/12: Greet and help shoppers. Re-stock books. Clean up and return books to the warehouse.
Volunteer sign-up form. After you sign up, you will be sent a link inviting you to volunteer for a particular shift.

Summer Programs in Oregon:
3/22: Short-Term Research Experience Program to Unlock Potential (STEP-UP) application deadline. Paid 8-week full-time summer research program that connects current high school juniors and seniors with local research institutions and mentors near their home. Preference that applicants be from underrepresented racial/ethnic groups, disadvantaged backgrounds, or be individuals with disabilities. Apply.
4/1: Registration for the UO’s SAIL summer program open. Day program: July 20-24, residential (overnight) program: July 12-17. Free programs at the UO for rising high school juniors and seniors with financial need. Participants choose academic subjects to explore in fun, interactive ways. The program also includes helpful college-prep activities. Every SAIL participant who enrolls at the UO after high school will receive a $1000 scholarship.
Career Center Current Events:
NOW: LCC’s Trades Expo registration open. Takes place on 5/15 from 8:45 am-1 pm at LCC. Students participate in two interactive one-hour sessions, choosing from 7 career areas: automotive, diesel, construction, computer information technology (CIT), CNC Machining, drafting, and fabrication/welding. Also, opportunities to meet local industry professionals and employers. Free lunch provided for registered students. Event schedule.
NOW: Lane Career Academy: Hope Factory, Behavioral Health, and Emergency Services. These career-pathway courses are options for current SEHS sophomores and juniors to forecast for next year’s class schedule. Interested students should discuss the forecasting process with their counselors.
3/14: Teen Jobs Fair. 12-4 pm at the Sheldon Community Center. Free but registration required. Local employers, interview practice, resume tips. Sponsored by the City of Eugene Recreation Teen Empowerment Program.
3/15: United States Military Academy and the University of Oregon ROTC admissions event. 1-2 pm at the UO’s Allen Hall, room 221. Opportunity to learn more about West Point, life as a cadet, and the application process. Registration required.
3/18: Lane ESD Youth Peer Support Specialist Training registration deadline. Takes place during spring break, 3/23-27 from 9 am-5 pm each day at Spark at Booth-Kelly (303 S 5th St. Ste 150, Springfield). Participants must have some lived experience related to mental health and/or substance use and be within 9 months of being 18. Free and includes lunch and gas cards to help with transportation, if needed. Students become Certified Youth Support Specialists with this 40-hour OHA-approved course.
3/20: National Honor Society application deadline at 4 pm. Current sophomores and juniors with a 3.5+ GPA are invited to apply. Membership requires a substantial commitment of time and includes attending meetings, 30 hours of community service each semester, and maintenance of a 3.5 GPA. Selection for membership is based on scholarship, character, leadership, and service.
