Homecoming Thank You

Last night was the crowning event of a wonderful Homecoming Week. Thanks to numerous student, parent, and staff volunteers throughout the week, South Eugene students were treated to a spirited assembly on Tuesday, home sporting events all week, and an incredibly well attended Homecoming dance. Fall should always be a special time for students and these events brought together many elements that make it so.

Now the focus shifts to upcoming mid-terms. Students should be well along into their Semester 1 coursework and able to share about the projects, labs, and experiences that showcase their development. Please continue to periodically check Canvas and ParentVue for information, attendance, and scores. November 10th is the Midterm Grading Day, so students have two weeks remaining before Progress Reports.

CTE: Career Technical Education

How will your student earn a competitive advantage for career and/or college?

South Eugene High School and the Eugene 4j District offer empowering CTE programs featuring active and engaging experiential learning. Can you or your student name all five CTE offerings specific to South Eugene? Can you name all four of the district-wide CALCI CTE offerings?

Experiential Learning programs are available to all students at SEHS, and currently there are nine specialized programs to choose from. Most CTEs are completed over one or two full years as a junior and/or senior, but it is invaluable for families of freshmen and sophomores to discuss these programs now in preparation for and anticipation of engaging in a CTE of choice during high school.

At South Eugene, students may forecast coursework in any of five different on-site CTE programs which prepare students for careers through an awareness of best practices within an industry and applicable hands-on skills within a field.

South Eugene High School CTE Programs include:

These SEHS CTE Programs are coordinated by gifted South faculty in each field.

For more information, contact the CTE Coordinator by email and express your interest in and appreciation for their work! Alternately, contact your [student’s] counselor for additional guidance. For further details about coursework curriculum for each CTE at South, click here:  https://www.sehs.lane.edu/99812_2

4J’s Center for Advanced Learning and Community Impact (aka CALCI)

provides opportunities for all rising Juniors and Seniors in the areas of:

*HumaniTech is a 4j CALCI Program hosted on-site at South Eugene.

What makes CALCI unique? Each program offers:

  • A free program, open to all 11th and 12th graders at any 4J high school

  • A one- or two-year deep dive that offers and integrates elective and core academic credits

  • A half-day, hands-on program

(Note: Future Build runs full day/every other day)

  • A professional classroom setting in a single location

MIDTERMS

A reminder to all families that midterms are right around the corner. Please check student grades and assist in preparing for this important mid-point in the semester. Now is the time for students to catch up on any missed assignments and to begin studying for exams. Reach out to any teachers in classes where there may be need for additional support, and always know that counselors are available to assist as well.

CLUB AXE
Club Axe is a twice-weekly after school tutoring session that meets on Mondays and Thursdays in the SEHS Library from 3:30-4:30. Utilize this resource especially as midterms approach! Everyone is invited to come get some work done with support from teachers and peer tutors. Plus, there are snacks!

SENIOR INTERVIEWS
All students in the class of 2026 should now be scheduling and attending their mandatory senior interview. Counselors will review transcripts, senior year courses, graduation plan, and post high school options during this meeting.

PURPLE PACKETS
All seniors applying to a four-year college or university should turn in the second page of their purple packet to the counseling center as soon as possible. The purple packet is a set of instructions that guides students through the college application process here at South. Seniors should check out the Class of 2026 module on Canvas for a supplemental slide deck explaining how to access Xello, and stop by counseling during drop-in hours with any questions.
